IAAP RATIONALE AND PURPOSE

The IAAP functions on the principal that Black males have race-specific social experiences. These race-specific social experiences lead to race-specific psychological experiences which in turn have led to the current trend of race-specific underachievement by Black males. The IAAP purposefully merges theory, science, and practice to capture and bring solutions to the insidious impact of racism, stigma, and discrimination on the psychological functioning of Black males.

IAAP LECTURES

IAAP presentations are strategically designed to empower and guide organizations who are seeking “mass consultation” for building tangible solutions for improving its ability to serve Black males.

I.LECTURE TITLE
The Psychology of Racism and the Impact of Racially Contextualized Learning Curricula

Presentation Objective
In the spirit of advocacy, diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunity, this presentation purposefully merges theory, science, and practice to capture and explain the insidious impact of racism, stigma, and discrimination on the psychological development of Black males. This presentation systematically outlines the connection between the spiraling national trend of underachievement on the part of Black males and the psychological struggles rooted in toxic sociocultural experiences encountered during the formative years of human development. Using a unique psychosocial perspective, this presentation provides information on how to effectively and purposefully implement contextualized models and culturally-appropriate modalities.


II. LECTURE TITLE
The Adaptive Life Processing Model (ALP): A Practice Driven Approach for Teaching Black Adolescence how to Productively Cope with Racism, Fatherlessness, and Poverty

Presentation Objective
The purpose of this presentation is to outline and summarize the significant correlation between coping behavior utilization, psychological dysfunction, and academic achievement. Specifically, this presentation will detail how the utilization of Emotional Coping and Avoidant Coping negatively impact the academic trajectory of Black  male students. This presentation makes a deliberate effort to outline strategies therapists and educators can use to build into Black adolescents the adaptive behaviors needed to productively cope with the challenges of life and achieve their educational goals.

LECTURE TITLE
The Cognitive Affective Negativity Template (CAN'T): Psychologically Overcoming Racial Stigma and Discrimination by Building Resilience into Black American Students and Clients

Presentation Objective
Many Black males all too often are burdened with the task of achieving the American Dream despite a “holistic lack” of available resources (i.e., racial capital, financial security, psychological sophistication, fraternal support, age-related social restrictions, etc.). This presentation will provide guided instructions on how to more effectively instruct, socialize, and empower Black Americans by increasing their “Spirit of Resilience”. Contextualizing therapeutic and educational modalities to effectively build resilience, adaptive coping, confidence, and hope into the minds Black Americans will also be addressed.  


IV.
LECTURE TITLE
Strength Based Empowerment Capital (SBEC): Creating Culturally Effective Educational Environments

Presentation Objective
It is the IAAP philosophy that immersion in a learning environment that possess culturally appropriate stimulus (i.e. people, info, ideas, activities, experiences, historical context, motivational cues, etc.) is critical. Such an environment is necessary for effectively addressing the culture-specific needs of Black Americans. This presentation outlines the importance of implementing prescriptive race-based interventions and therapeutic models that are strategically contextualized around the race-based social experience of Black Americans. Strategies for engaging students with enriching developmental activities and exercises that sequentially build into Black Americans the psychological skill-set and developmental assets necessary for achieving success will also be addressed.
